Make a landscape video vertical
Shorts and Reels want vertical, but cropping to it throws away whoever was standing at the edge of the frame. Scaling the original down, centring it and filling above and below with a blurred backdrop keeps everything in shot.

FAQ
Before you start
- How is this different from cropping to 9:16?
- The crop preset in the Effects tab really does cut the sides off. If your subject is dead centre that is the cleaner result. If people or captions reach the edges, use this instead — the whole frame goes in and only the empty space is filled.
- How much background blur?
- Around the default of 20 the backdrop stops competing for attention. Near 0 you see the picture twice, which is busy; near 40 only colour is left.
- Can I do 4:5 for an Instagram feed post?
- 9:16 (Shorts, Reels), 4:5 (Instagram feed) and 1:1 (square) are all available. Output is 720 wide on Free and 1080 on Pro.
